Things No One Tells You About Tattoo Removal
It would be so nice to know more about tattoo removal before actually having the tattoo in the first place. More about the results, the pain, the side effects and, of course, the cost. The removal can be even more painful than actually getting the tattoo in the first place. Do you regret any of your tattoos? My tastes have certainly changed over the past few decades – a lot!
Tattoos don’t just disappear, you know – go to a qualified doctor or experienced specialist
Do you realise how long it takes to remove a tattoo – about two and a half years on average – and laser treatments should be scheduled about three months apart to give yourself time to heal between sessions.
Numbing cream helps, but the laser treatment can be pretty painful. A chiller helps too
The cost – and degree of pain – of tattoo removal varies on the doctor doing it, as well as the size, colour, and age of the tattoo, but all inks and shades will eventually disappear, even yellows and greens.
Slather on zinc oxide sunscreen to prevent exposure to the sun. And be prepared for the sites to blister. Aftercare? You’ll need bandages and antibiotic cream or a healing moisturizer too for the first few days. And you can count on at least a week’s discomfort.
How to Remove Tattoos – Solutions
Semi-removal? Some people compromise, and lighten the tattoos and then cover them with a new one. But if all the ink is removed then there may be scarring. Tattoo removal cream doesn’t usually work – the only solutions are dermabrasion, surgery or laser treatments.
Smaller tattoos can be removed surgically quite easily. But don’t try to remove one yourself.
In the US about one in ten people – many of them teenagers – have at least one tattoo, and half of them want to remove or change them. With many teens getting tattoos they later regret, tattoo removal is an increasing issue in Australia.
